"What a Wonderful World"

words and music by George David Weiss and Bob Thiele
arrangement for piano/four-hands by Anderson & Roe

Made famous by the inimitable jazz legend Louis Armstrong, this classic song from 1967 is romantic in style and spirit, sweetly tender, and full of wonder — it's an invitation to lose yourself to the beauty of the world. (It’s no surprise, therefore, that this song is a popular slow dance at weddings!) As a nod to the flowers described in the song's lyrics, our arrangement includes brief allusions to "Lilacs" by Sergei Rachmaninoff.

— Greg Anderson & Elizabeth Joy Roe

I hear babies crying; I watch them grow.
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Yes, I think to myself
What a wonderful world.

I see trees of green, red roses, too,
I see them bloom, for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue, and clouds of white,
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world.

The colors of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky,
Are also on the faces of people going by.
I see friends shaking hands, saying, “How do you do?”
They're really saying, “I love you.”
